Armenian Bibles

November 2021 Faces Eurasia

Can you imagine your Christian life without a translation of the Bible in a modern language that you can understand? Without reading and comprehending God’s Word, how can you grow in your walk with Christ? How can you share the gospel with unbelievers?

This is where we find our Armenian brothers and sisters in Christ. For the last 150 years, Armenians have not had a trusted and accurate translation of the Bible.

On the western edge of Eurasia lies a country with deep roots in Christianity: Armenia, the oldest Christian nation in the world. Surrounded by Islamic nations including Turkey, Iran, and Azerbaijan, Armenia is perfectly positioned to shine Christ’s love into its neighboring countries. It is a lighthouse for Christ in a sea of Islam.

Since the 19th century, the Armenian people have not had a faithful translation of the Bible – the Bible used by over 90% of the population is written in outdated language, the translation is poor, and there are many theological errors. This situation is especially tragic, because for centuries the Armenian Church was known for having one of the richest, most faithful translations of the Bible.

Without a reliable Bible translation that can be understood by all Armenians, the Armenian Church cannot raise up disciples, church planters, and missionaries to preach to the lost in their own nation and beyond.

…Unless they have a new translation of the WORD OF GOD in their hands! Since 2018, our team has been translating and updating the Armenian Bible.

After years of hard work, I am happy to report the Revised Modern Armenian Version is nearly complete. It will be a turning point in the history of Armenia.

The people are ready. The churches are ready. The harvest is ready. BUT we need your financial partnership to complete the task so that the workers for the harvest can be equipped…

We cannot let this translation wait another day – the Revised Modern Armenian Bible needs to be printed and distributed. Pastors and church members are eager to have a Bible they can easily read and use to raise up, equip, and send out workers into the nations. They are hungry for the life-changing truth of the living Word.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
– Hebrews 4:12

When asked to describe Armenia in one word, our workers said: hopelessness.

There are very few job opportunities, making the unemployment rate high. Many extended families struggle to survive on just one person’s income, with most crowding multiple generations into stiflingly small shacks or apartments.

This hopelessness is why the Christians in Armenia are so eager to share Jesus’ love in the forgotten furthest reaches of the nation. If they could give out Bibles that can be understood by the average Armenian in the country’s hundreds of towns and villages, think of how many lives would be transformed by the power of our Savior. Imagine how the Church would explode in Armenia, creating a whole new generation of leaders who would take the light of the gospel into the darkness of the surrounding nations!

But we need help from loving friends like you to fund the Bible printing.

An entire Bible can be printed for only $25. For the first round of printing,
we have a big goal – 10,000 Armenian Bibles!

Narek is a pastor in Armenia who has been waiting years for the new Armenian Bible. Right now, he cannot effectively study or preach God’s Word. He uses two or three modern Bibles in different languages to study the Scripture. Pastors like Narek must learn multiple languages, to piece together a modern Biblical understanding – and then speak it in the Armenian language to their congregation.

Other Armenians have been waiting to take the gospel to neighboring Muslim countries. One such woman, Milena, has a heart to be a missionary to Iran. Without a Bible in her own heart language, how can she share the beauty of the Good News? Right now, she is not equipped with a Bible she can understand and use to reach the lost.

Church leaders know that the Revised Modern Armenian Bible is essential to reaching current and future generations of Armenians and the 160 million Muslims in the surrounding nations. Can you imagine how excited the Armenian Christians will be when they finally have a Bible to read on their own? I can already picture their tears of gratitude and their joyful praises!

The need is great. The goal is big. We have set out to print 10,000 Bibles.

Please send what you can today as we make history in Armenia. You will be a part of putting into the hands of the people an accurate and reliable Bible so that they can fulfill their calling — to be a lighthouse for Christ in a sea of Islam.  Thank you for being generous in bringing the Word to all of God’s people.

P.S.    Your gift will help print new Armenian Bibles to give to as many people as possible. Thank you for helping us reach Armenians and surrounding Muslim nations with the transformative Word of God.
